News & Announcements
The Ad hoc Committee to Reopen Multnomah Meeting, appointed by Meeting for Business, has met regularly to work towards clearness as to how to reopen the Meetinghouse. Two of our guiding principles throughout this process have been Inclusivity and Connection.
The following article, reprinted with permission from the Portland Tribune, was recommended by members of the Peace & Social Concerns Committee, Friends for Racial Justice, the Racial Justice Study & Action Group, & other Multnomah Meeting Friends. Senator Lew Frederick, a part of our Meeting community, wrote this piece for the Portland Tribune, 6/14/20. He and others have prepared a package of legislation for a special session this summer and the 2021 regular legislative session. He will also be speaking at NPYM Annual Session this summer.
Dear Friends:
Multnomah Monthly Meeting reminds Friends of our Minute on Racial Justice:
This minute affirms the commitment of Multnomah Friends to live out the Quaker testimony of Equality for all people. While racism impacts many people in our community, we carry a special concern for those who are the descendants of African American people once enslaved as unpaid labor during the building of great wealth in the United States. While emancipated from slavery, few descendants have ever known economic well-being or freedom from racial injustice.
Dear Friends,
In lieu of in-person worship at our meetinghouse, we will be meeting via Zoom at 10 am Sundays.
Zoom Meeting: This link will serve for Early Worship, the 10 o'clock Meeting, and Meeting for Business until further notice. You may enter five minutes before normal start time.
