Together we nurture the spiritual vitality of Friends

Durham Friends Meeting

Welcome to the Durham Friends Meeting (Quaker)

Two Important Messages from Durham Friends Meeting:

As of March 21, 2020, Durham Friends Meeting is now operating on the assumption that all in-person events will be canceled until May 1.  Also, the DFM Meetnghouses are now closed for all use by the DFM community as well as rental groups from the wider community until May 1.  If Friends need to access our buildings, Grounds and Facilities Committee requests that Friends send an email to [email protected] so we can be sure Friends are entering one at a time and surfaces can be disinfected if necessary.

In the Spirit, the Ad-Hoc Committee on Covid-19, Ministry and Counsel Committee, Grounds and Facilities Committee, and the Clerking Team

To the Durham Friends community,

Continued safety, health, and Light to all of you.

In response to the pandemic, a DFM Ad-Hoc Community Care Committee has been formed. We recognize that as COVID-19-related restrictions tighten and the illness spreads, many individuals and families have been and will be impacted financially, socially, emotionally, and spiritually.

The Community Care Committee includes representatives from the Clerking Team, Ministry and Counsel, Communications, Care and Support, as well as other individuals, and has been tasked with creating structures, through brainstorming and collaboration, that ensure that members of our community feel connected and supported as this virus continues to make its impact.

If you have a need or would like to request support, we ask that you please email [email protected] .

There are also various ways to help out right now.

Visit a new simplified website we are using at this time,  www.durhamfriendsmeeting.com , for additional information and to sign up to help support our community by making phone calls, delivering groceries, or offering your gifts in some other way.

With Gratitude,

The Ad-Hoc Community Care Committee:

Mike Green, Marsha Green, Karen Stewart, Bonnie Oulman, Marcella Wagner, Christine Houghton, and Andrew Edmonds

Forum on First Day April 24th:  An Introduction to Experiment With Light

Be still awhile from thy own thoughts, searching, seeking, desires, and imaginations, and be stayed in the principle of God in thee...And thou being come to the principle of God [within], which hath been transgressed [by thee], it will keep thee humble; and [to] the humble God will teach his way, which is peace...                                                             George Fox’s advice to Elizabeth Cromwell Claypole, 1658:

Ten years ago, we built a new Meetinghouse and completed what we could with what resources the Spirit brought forth at the time.
